It has a lot to do with the child's self esteem. Your child must first believe he can achieve any goal he chooses to tackle. It is the parent's role to help their children develop self-confidence and a strong belief in their own ability to reach their goals.

It starts at an early age when a child is developing his learning skills. Achievement is the beginning of your child’s ability to realize he can succeed by accomplishing tasks successfully.

It is important that your child feels the joy of success. For example, when he gets the circle in the round hole correctly and mom or dad is elated. The simple idea of getting the right shape into its proper place is the first step in reaching a goal.

Learning to accomplish their goals early in life will help give your children a sense of pride and achievement. It is extremely important that our children feel that success is attainable… because it is!

Success for a child is the same as it is for adults… it’s an attitude, a positive attitude.

Children need to feel that they can do anything they set their minds on accomplishing. Consistently talking positively with your child about his goals and achievements is a great way to motivate your child to succeed.

I encourage my child with positives, even when he does wrong.

I try to put myself in my child's shoes and understand his feelings. I have a better chance of communicating and reaching my child when I talk to him on his level.

Successfully being able to communicate with my child helps develop the trust we need between us.

How I choose to speak to my child can make or break his day. When my child acts angry or frustrated, I respond with a positive message. I encourage my child to have a happy, positive attitude... and it starts with me.

As parents and teachers we play a large, supporting role in the success of our children. How we speak, teach, help, inspire and motivate them is important.

Do you ask your child what they want to be when they grow up? Do you recognize special gifts and talents? Do you take action to help ensure that your child gets the proper tools so he has the opportunity to improve his skills? Do you encourage, inspire, motivate and support your child’s dream?

It is important that you encourage and support your child’s dream by actively helping your child set and reach his goals.

Encourage your children to explore and discover what they love to do.

Most schools offer programs that encourage your child to achieve success in a field that interests him. Enroll your child in an elective class related to a hobby or interest. If you are not sure what your school has to offer, check with your child’s guidance counselor. They can lead you in the right direction.

Listen to what interests your child has and encourage him to pursue his goals and dreams. Help your child discover who he is and what he wants to be.

There are many ways we can help our children achieve their dream. How we help mold and shape our children is our responsibility.
